School
History
Komatsu Senior High School has a long and
distinguished history dating back to the Meiji period.
In 1899 the school was founded as the 4th
Middle School of Ishikawa Prefecture for boysf high school education roughly
equivalent to todayfs college education.
In 1907 the school was renamed Ishikawa Prefectural Komatsu Middle
School and it established a good reputation as one of the most prestigious
boysf schools in the Hokuriku district.
After World War II the Japanese educational
system undertook a drastic reform.
In 1948 the school, combined with Prefectural Komatsu Girlsf High School
and Municipal Komatsu Girlsf High School, was reborn and renamed Ishikawa
Prefectural Komatsu Senior High School and became a co-educational
general-course senior high school.
In 1968 the mathematics and science course
started with a new philosophy of meeting the growing demand for specialist
education in science.
In 1999 the school celebrated the 100th
anniversary of its foundation. In
2003, the school was designated as a Super High School in English, Mathematics,
and Science by Ishikawa Prefecture and in 2006 as a Super Science High School
by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
In 2006 the construction of the new school
buildings were completed with an outstanding rich educational environment.
Komatsu
Senior High School celebrated its 110th School Foundation Anniversary in 2009.
